Native plant gardening, Sustainable living, Home improvement
- David owns far too many books about gardening and the history of plants than anyone could ever read.
- He spearheaded the design and installation of a school garden and outdoor classroom at a local elementary school.
- When passersby stop to ask who built his stylish white picket fence and designed his showstopper three-season garden, he gets to answer that he did.
Experience
While teaching college history and writing, David spent his summers working in a local garden center. He led the PTO garden committee and the Green Club after-school activity group at his daughter's elementary school. Since leaving academia, he has published over two hundred articles on gardening and sustainable living at Real Simple, US News & World Report, Treehugger, pv magazine, and other venues.
Education
David received his bachelor's degree from the College of Letters at Wesleyan University and his master's and doctoral degrees in European history from the University of California, Berkeley.
